Fresh off of her victory against 2023 State Champion/Fargo All-American, Zoey Jewett (General Brown) to win the crown at the Dame of Thrones; the Mount Markham 7th grade phenom [Massey] was equally impressive in claiming the hardware at the ESC...
Compiling a 2-0 record while outscoring her opponents by a margin of 21-1; Massey emerged with a semifinal pin of 2023 PSAL bronze medalist, Aracelli Rodriguez (Truman) before then teching 2024 NYSPHSAA Girls Invitational State Qualifier, Amelia Armstrong (Wayne), in the finale!!
Already leading 6-0 at the time (2 takedowns and a 2pt leg-lace) against the former [Rodriguez], Massey ran a bar to turn the Gotham gal to her back for the fall at the 1:07 mark!
Versus the latter in the title contest, the Section III representative would actually surrender the opening point on a stepout; but then exploded for 13 unanswered points, including a pair of 4pt feet-to-back takedowns at the start and conclusion of her streak to seize the 13-1 triumph!!

In top form and demonstrating why she is presently is a fixture in the top-10 of the 2024-2025 USAW Girls National rankings; the defending NYSPHSAA Girls Invitational titlist/2024 UWW U15 Pan-American gold medalist/2024 Super 32 placer [Sullivan] was never forced to go beyond the 1st period in any of her three matches as she posted identical 10-0 superiority dubs across the board to become a first-time ESC Queen!!!
Upending returning and/or former Girls State placers in each of her last two appearances on Saturday; in the semifinals, the Crusader 8th grader got in on a single-leg and then doubled-off for the TD to go up 2-0 before then transitioning to a leg-lace for four straight turns en route to besting 2024 State 5th/2x USAW 16U Folk All-American, Aislin Kellner (Arlington), in a time of just 24 ticks...
Her championship bout took a tad bit longer (0:44), but the level of dominance remained constant as she came out of the gate and landed a 4pt takedown to seize the instant 4-0 edge before later adding a second TD and then punctuating the victory with back-to-back turns via Bow & Arrow to overwhelm 2023 Girls State runner-up, Jasmine Brucato (HFL/Alexander)!
Her longest outing of the tourney (occurred during the opening round, as Port Chester's Laila Builes extended her to 1:20 before succumbing to the skills of the Monroe Woodbury prodigy!

Making it two ESC titles in the past three seasons (skipped 2023) was the present-day #10 ranked woman in the land/2x UWW U17 Pan-American finalist (2023 Gold)/2024 Fargo 16U National Champ/2023 NYS DII Boys 6th [Wylie]!!!
Amassing a 35-0 margin in terms of points scored vs. surrendered, the Raider 11th grader cut through a tough field with ease via respective 12-0, 12-0, 11-0 conquests over Sophia Paone (Shenendehowa; 2024 Girls State Qualifier), Keira Filip (Minisink Valley; 2x Girls State 4th), & 2x NYSPHSAA Girls Bronze medalist, Isabella Phelps (Sidney)...
All of these wins coming in 1:51 (finals) or less, against Phelps in the main event, Wylie would stockpile three takedowns (including a 4pt double to make the score 9-0) before ending the match with a 2pt gut-wrench!
Her two prior appearances were both of the sub.-1:00 variety, as two of her trio of takedowns were 4-pointers (both double-legs) to go along with a 2pt gut mixed in the middle of the 49-second "w" over Paone!
Against her fellow S9er [Filip] in the semis, Wylie jumped out to an 8-0 lead behind a TD and three guts in the first :15 of action....She'd then hit a 4-point throw on the edge of the mat to punctuate her efforts!!!

The youngest of a sisterhood that has turned winning ESC gold into a family affair, the "Bully" joined older sisters---Mia and Sofia (went back-to-back in 2020 at 120 and 126 pounds) in the history books when she utilized falls in the quarters and finals (sandwiched around a tech in the semis) to take home the top prize at 138 pounds...
A runner-up at this event a season ago, the two-time returning Girls State placer (3rd in '24) became the lone Warrior to hoist individual hardware when up 6-5 in the 2nd period against 2024 NYSPHSAA Girls State Qualifier/2024 NE Regional champ, Brooke-Lynn Murray (Bay Shore), she'd connect with a chin whip straight to her opponents back for a 4-pointer that inevitably turned into a stick at the 4:07 mark!!!
One of a pair of pins (as noted above) earned by the 11th grader hailing from Otisville; two round earlier, she established an 8-0 lead against Middletown's Kalyani Ramkissoon before striking with a beautiful 4-point ankle pick to the back that would have given her the TF if not for the fact that she managed to register the 1:18 matslap instead!!
Two separate four-point moves (both whips) served as book end factors in a 12-1 semifinal teching of 2023 Girls State 5th, Gabriella Schechtman (Bellmore JFK)!!

Spending all of 1:43 on the mats this past Saturday, the current 23rd-ranked wrestler in the nation certainly was not fooling around or punching a clock in demonstrating her mastery at 145 pounds...
A 2024 Girls State runner-up, as well as a U15 Pan-American gold medalist on behalf of the Plains(wo)men last season; Guilmette jumped out to a 4-0 lead (arm-spin for a TD followed by a power-half for a 2pt exposure) before delivering the big blow by way of a 4pt cow-catcher that signaled the end for fellow S2 rep/2024 NE Regional bridesmaid, Kiara Richard (Shaker)!
In her only other match of the day; Guilmette required less than half a minute (0:27) to flatten Middletown's Gianna King in a semifinal showdown!

The fourth titlist of the day for the Section 9 contingent; when the next set of national polls are released in the coming weeks, Alvarado is a name we most certainly look forward to see making her debut!!
Feeding off of the momentum she created when she was a 16U All-American in Fargo this past summer; the Warwick sophomore has looked the part of a potential state titlist at every stage thus far of the 2024-2025 campaign!!
Accruing a 3-0 resume to add ESC gold to her growing collection of bullet points, she registered a quarterfinal pin complemented by consecutive techs en route to commanding 152-pound spotlight...
Pitted in the title bout against sixth-seeded Aaliyah Morrow (Bellport), Alvarado carried a 10-1 edge into the break after racking up four takedowns and 2pt turn....When action resumed, she complete the TF when she hit a dump yet another TD to close out the 12-1 triumph!
Her semifinal outing the only occasion in which the talented feline ("Wildcat") received any kind of challenge; Alvarado was up only 7-6 at the intermission versus 2x defending PSAL queen, Ana Lockard (Brooklyn Tech); but would come on strong during the final 3:00, as she tallied four TDs (highlighted by a 4pt double-leg at the onset to go up 11-6) to emerge with an 18-8 victory!
Lockard being the second of two City rivals conquered by Alvarado; in her only other appearance of the tournament; she doubled-legged 2024 PSAL 4th, Sophia Chen (Bronx Science), less than :10 into their quarterfinal match and then turned with a power-half to secure the fall in :27!

Instead of Duck-Duck-Goose, the current #24 ranked girl in the nation/2x Girls State medalist ('24 runner-up) treated herself to a nice game of pin-pin-pin-GOAT in the 165-pound bracket!!!
Winning the top prize in her Eastern States Classic debut, Thomas banked falls in times of 0:30, 0:47, and 3:53 over the likes of Carol Cartuche (Middletown), Angelica Malachowicz (2024 PSAL 7th for Bronx Science), & 2x City placer/Defending PSAL champ, Tehana Savory (Brooklyn Tech)!
Forced to go beyond the 1st period and surrendering her only points in her finals collision against the Engineer student-athlete [Savory]; the Section VI resident connected with a headlock while up 9-2 (three TDs, including a 4-pointer that drew first blood :42 into the opening stanza) to earn to cap off her trek to the winner's circle!!
Up 2-0 and 4-0 respectively in her quarter and semifinal matches, the application of lethal power-halves did the trick in propelling Thomas to consecutive sub-1:00 falls!!

The accolades and the associated trophies continued to pile up for the #15 ranked scholastic wrestler in the USA, as the Mounties' senior logged expedited victories in each of her two trips to the mat en route to becoming first-time ESC Queen...
Getting on and off the mat in such lighting fashion that if you blinked you likely missed it; the 2x Girls State placer (2024 Champ)/2x Fargo All-American out of S3 needed just :09 to attack with a freight train double and steam roll her finals opponent, Emily Dudar (Shaker), to her back for the stick!!!
One round earlier, Shepardson got out to a 4-0 lead versus Clarence's Ryann Berner (2024 NYS Qualifier) when she had a snap + spin TD and then locked up a cradle for a 2pt exposure during the opening minute of action..
Keeping her feet firmly on the "gas", she'd tack on a 4pt double-leg and then closed out the 10-0 TF by converting a bread-and-butter low-single with 1:22 to go in the period!
Improving her positioning on the podium in each of her three trips to the ESC; Shepardson's gold in 2025 gives her a full set of hardware, as she previously settled for bronze in 2023 and silver in 2024!

Paraphrasing from living legend, Ric Flair..."To be the [wo]man, you need to beat the [wo]man!!!
And that is exactly what the Generals' sensational sophomore [Flores] succeeded in doing this past Saturday...
Her ascension to the ESC mountaintop taking her through not just one returning Eastern States finalist, but rather both of last year's money match participants in this weight class; the Nassau resident made a statement when she emerged with a 4:03 fall over 2024 S9 Champ/ESC runner-up, Norma Avila (Middletown); and then followed it up by claiming a 6-4 encore performance in the finals over reigning 235-pound ESC royalty/2024 Girls State 3rd, Patricia Deslandes (Minisink Valley)!!!
The majority of her accumulation in the dub over Avila occurring during the 1st period; Flores would slip a headlock for a 2pt takedown and then pancake the Bear right before the buzzer for a 4-pointer to carry a 7-0 lead into the break...
Getting tossed to her back for 4 during the opening half minute of the 2nd; she'd fought off the pin and on the ensuing continuation of the sequence, would scramble on top for a 1pt reversal and then lock in a power-half to turn Avila to her back until the slap of the mat echoes throughout the arena!!
Against her Warrior nemesis [Deslandes] in the finale, Flores struck for the first three takedowns of the match (a pair of snap + spins in the 2nd period) between the 1st and 2nd periods to lead 6-0...
However, much like the brief adversity she encountered in the semis when she had to battle out of danger; the MacArthur 10th grader did have to sweat out the last 15 ticks of regulation against Deslander, as she was taken down and turned with a power-half in the waning moments before the horn joyfully blared to confirm her triumph!!
Not to be overlooked or undervalued was the 4:52 pin (up 15-2) she registered in the quarterfinals over 2024 State Qualifier, Ava Gregg (Shaker)!

114 Pounds: Marie Sharp (Blair Academy; NJ)---Climbing to #5 in the nation the Garden State fab freshman was dominant in her two outings, as she needed just 1:02 to rack up a 10-0 TF against Anaiya Pagan (Samuel Gompers) in the semifinals; and then pinned 2024 Connecticut Girls Open State champion, Tatianna Irizarry (Choate Rosemary), at the 53-second mark of their finals match-ups!...Sharp is a 2x Super 32 placer, a 2024 Fargo 16U 5th, a 2023 Women's Nationals 14U National Champion...She already took gold earlier this year at the Ironman and the Dame of Thrones, while being a Beast of the East runner-up!
120 Pounds: Calli Gilchrist (Choate Rosemary Hall; CT)---Joining Wylie as the only repeat and/or two-time ESC winner among this year's Queens would be the current #3 ranked lady in the country...A 2024 Prep National Champion, as well as a 2x Connecticut (2022, 2023) Girls State Champion during the regular season; the Nutmeg 12th grader has especially shined on the national circuit, as she is a 4x Fargo All-American (2023 Junior National runner-up; 2x age-group bronze medalist), and a 2x NHSCA National Champion...A Beast of the East title already in her back pocket from December, Gilchrist had little trouble in racking up a 31-0 margin en route to earning nothing but technical falls over Breyana Montalvo (2024 NYS Girls State Qualifier for Amsterdam), Delaney Frost (2024 Maine Girls State Champion on behalf of Noble), & Westhampton Beach's Lily Blenk!...In 2024, Gilchrist won the 114-pound ESC prize when she pinned 2x NYS Girls State runner-up, Mora Peterson (Islip/Bay Shore), in a time of 49 seconds!
126 Pounds: Victoria Carbonaro (Blair Academy; NJ)---Sitting in the #3 spot of the national polls, the 2024 Prep National runner-up/2024 Fargo 16U runner-up/2024 UWW U15 Pan-American gold medalist/2024 S32 3rd for the Bucs was the last woman standing in one of the premier brackets of the weekend...Teching her way through a gauntlet of opponents, Carbonaro opened up with a 10-0 blanking of 2024 Girls State Qualifier, Amy Erikson (Niskayuna-Schenectady); and then punched her ticket to the 'ship when she recorded a victory by an identical score over Choate Rosemary's #9 Sara McLaughlin (2024 Prep National runner-up; 2x Massachusetts State titlist; 2024 Fargo Junior 8th; 2023 USAW 16U Folk National Champion, 2x NHSCA AA, etc)...As a final hurdle, she'd have to tangle with Minisink Valley's 2x Girls State medalist/2023 Champion/2023 ESC runner-up, Sara Pauls; and would emerge as a 14-4 victor over the blue chip sophomore...After missing both the Ironman and the Beast of the East, Carbonaro earned her second major tournament title of 2024-2025, as she also shined in a prior trip to the Evil Empire at the Dame of the Thrones!
132 Pounds: #1 Corynne McNulty (Blair Academy; NJ)---Claiming the third individual crown (out of four entries) for the Bucs would be their 132-pound sophomore standout...Ranked 6th in the nation, the defending Prep National Champ/2024 Fargo 16 National runner-up/2024 Super 32 bridesmaid dethroned a returning Eastern States champion in the finals when she hung on for a 3-2 decision over 2024 Girls State titlist/2023 Fargo 16U Bronze medalist, Mia Collins (Ballston Spa), in one of the most hotly contested matches of the weekend regardless of gender...Collins being the second of a pair of NYS gems defeated by McNulty; one round earlier, she pinned State 6th, Josie Lamb (Canandaigua Academy), at the 27-second mark of their semifinal meeting!!...Like her aforementioned teammates; McNulty has now taken gold twice in the Empire, as she was also a titlist at the Dame of Thrones (to go along with 3rd-place finishes at both Ironman and Beast of the East)!
