A week removed from having one of their top individual student-athletes (Maxx Fesinger) honored as the NY-USAW Wrestler of the Week; this time around the block, the glory would be obtained through a collective effort where just about every man that saw action contributed something towards the cause!!!
Entering Week #3 just outside of the DI top-25 polls (HM), the Wildcats made a strong play for why they ought to be break into the mix when the rankings are updated by registering a perfect 5-0 resume that featured triumphs over the #1, #7, and #21 squads in the DII/Small School charts...
Winners in 48 of the 65 contested bouts from start to finish (48-17); the most definitive/commanding of their three top-25 dual wins came when they took 11 of 13 matches to upend perennial Section 10 dynasty, #7 Gouverneur, by a score of 62-9...
Clutch individual victories would be secured at 116, 124, 145, 170, and 190 by the likes of---Cole Willis (pinned 2024 Sectional Champion/NYS Qualifier, Tuffy Griffin in 3:47); Maximus Alexander (pinned 2024 Sectional Champion/NYS Qualifier, Kolt Murdie, at the 3:44 mark); Logan Willis (earned an 11-2 major decision over 10th-ranked/3x S10 finalist/2x Champion, JD Minckler); [Maxx] Fesinger (pinned 13th-ranked/2x S10 medalist/2022 Champion Paul Minckler); & Raul Colon (pinned #11 ranked/2x S10 Champion, Turner Sochia, in a time of 4:24)!
Versus a 21st ranked host school [CVA] that boasted three returning DII state placers (Gene Edwards, Cooper Reed, and Jeremy McRedmond), West Genesee overcame losses to all of them by prevailing in nine of the remaining 10 weight classes...
Pitching a 7-0 decision at 145 pounds, it was Logan Willis emerging with the highlight dub of the dual; as he toppled returning sectional 6th-place, Braiden Hight!
Aided by three forfeits and the absences of some key personnel (especially #2 ranked/2022 State runner-up, Andrew Spaulding); as the saying goes, "you can only beat who they put in front of you; and the when the smoke cleared, it was West Genesee knocking off present-day #1 Honeoye Falls-Lima, by a margin of 43-27...
Many of the signature head-to-head matches on paper going the way of the top-billed Cougars; heroics on behalf of WG was delivered by unranked Alexander, who posted a 19-8 major decision against 15th-ranked, Chase McVige, at 124 pounds..
Harrison Card, both ends of the Fesinger duo, and Colon all complimented boost provided by their teammate as they picked up respective 1:53 pin, 9-3 decision, 1:24 stick, and 5:56 fall outcomes at the expense of Weston Nicol, Carsen Montone, Wyatt Weiboldt, and Ben Feinberg!
Additional dual victories throughout the day manifesting in the form of 63-12 and 48-21 dubs versus Canastota and Southern Hills; the following West Genesee representative completed the event unblemished (min. of 3 appearances):
