As each season concludes, the buzz of the off-season immediately takes precedence throughout the wrestling community. Rumors tend to fly quickly and often with impact transfers making the biggest headlines.
Beyond impact transfers, another major headline heading into the 2024-2025 season is defending NYS Division 1 Dual Meet Champions, Plainedge, dropping down to Division 2....and potentially setting up a Champion vs Champion dual meet with 3x defending NYS Division 2 Dual Meet Champions, Tioga.
Let's not forget NYSPHSAA approving the inaugural New York State Girls Tournament, being held at the MVP Arena on Thursday, February 27th, 2024.
One area that may not draw as much attention, however, should not falter to the wayside are the new Head Coaches in 2024-2025. As a former Head Coach and Assistant, the time and effort put into developing and maintaining a program is remarkable. The sacrifices made may go without saying, however, they don't go unnoticed. These field generals are built differently. Their job does not stop once practice is over, or after the bus ride home from a tournament.
Coaching is not always about X's and O's or putting a lineup together. Coaching also involves academics, paperwork, meetings, and schedules. Oh, but that's not all, kids making weight, team camaraderie, and maintaining a level of competitiveness that enhances your wrestlers.
The list of duties for a Head Coach is endless. Let's take a look at the new head coaches in New York this season.
