CSTV TO AIR WORLD TEAM TRIALS, STARTING TUESDAY, JUNE 6 – College Sports Television (CSTV) will broadcast coverage of the U.S. World Team Trials, held in Sioux City, Iowa. Winners qualify to compete for Team USA at the World Championships in China. The first airing is Tuesday, June 6 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. There are seven scheduled airings of the show.

ELECTIONS TO BE HELD FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT-LARGE POSITIONS – Elections will be held in August for eight Member-at-Large positions on USA Wrestling’s Board of Directors. These positions will be voted upon at the August Board meeting. The deadline to send in the nomination form for this election is July 14, 2006

DEADLINE FOR COACHES PASS LIST FOR FARGO IS JUNE 7 – Any USA Wrestling Bronze Certified coach that seeks free admission to the ASICS/Vaughan Cadet and Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D. in July must pre-register for the pass list by June 7.

U.S. BEACH AND SOMBO NATIONALS SET FOR FLORIDA, AUGUST 17-20 – The U.S. Beach Nationals and the U.S. Sombo Nationals will be held in Palm Beach County, Fla., alongside USA Wrestling’s semi-annual Board of Directors meeting and annual State Leaders Conference, Aug. 17-20.

BRANDS, HENSON, SAUNDERS AND SMITH INDUCTED TO HALL OF FAME – World champions Terry Brands  and Tricia Saunders, Olympic medalist Josiah Henson and four-time NCAA Champion Pat Smith were inducted as Distinguished Members of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Okla. Other major awards were presented during Honors Weekend.

Selected by a panel of experts, this is the most prestigious honor in high school wrestling each year.

GARDNER ROASTED DURING SUCCESSFUL NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS – Rulon Gardner was roasted by his friends and peers during the successful Night and Drive of Champions, held at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J. The day featured golf and a banquet, and raised funds for USA Wrestling and the U.S. Olympic Committee.

NEW GRECO-ROMAN MONTHLY AWARDS PROGRAM CREATED – The USA Wrestling Greco-Roman National Team has created a series of new award recognizing outstanding achievements. Monthly awards to athletes, coaches and leaders will be given from April to July, and annual awards will be presented during the ASICS/Vaughan Cadet and Junior Nationals.

PAN AMERICAN QUALIFIER BRINGS SOMBO BACK INTO USA WRESTLING – USA Wrestling hosted its first event in Sombo, a style of wrestling that has been added by FILA to the sport, in a qualifying event at American University in Washington, D.C., May 6.

KIDS IMPROVE SKILLS AT CLINIC OF CHAMPIONS IN NEW JERSEY – Up to 200 young athletes, coaches and parents attended the free Clinic of Champions in Lawrenceville, N.J. where Greco-Roman legends Steve Fraser, Dremiel Byers and Ike Anderson taught total wrestling skills and inspired athletes to improve their technique.

WRESTLING ICONS ATTEND BEAT THE STREETS GALA IN NEW YORK – Olympic champions John Smith and Jeff Blatnick were among the wrestling dignitaries to attend the Beat the Streets Gala Party in New York City. The Beat the Streets program is providing opportunities for inner-city kids to participate in wrestling.

WRESTLING ICONS ATTEND BEAT THE STREETS PARTY IN NEW YORK – Two Olympic champions, 12 NCAAChampions and four U.S. World Team Coaches were in attendance at the Beat the Streets Gala Pary in New York City on May 11. Olympic champions John Smith and Jeff Blatnick helped celebrate the program that provides wrestling to inner-city children.

NATIONAL WRESTLING LEGENDS FUND SET UP TO SUPPORT WRESTLING – USA Wrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame have combined efforts to establish the National Wrestling Legends Fund. This program allows people to support the programs of both organizations. Author John Irving is the Honorary Chairman. A special website has been set up for this new program.
