Greco-Roman World Champion Joe Warren and Freestyle World
Champion Bill Zadick have been named as finalists for the James
E. Sullivan Award, presented annually to the nation’s top
amateur athlete.

U.S. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LAS VEGAS,
NEV., APRIL 6-7 - The nation’s top wrestlers in the Olympic
styles will compete at the Las Vegas/ASICS U.S. National
Wrestling Championships at the Las Vegas Convention Center,
April 6-7. The U.S. Sombo Nationals has also been added this
year, to a week including the FILA Junior Nationals, the
Veterans Nationals and the Western Junior Regionals.

ATHLETES COMPETING IN LAS VEGAS MUST REGISTER
ONLINE BY APRIL 3RD
All wrestlers who wish to compete in the U.S. National
Championships, the Veterans Nationals, the FILA Junior Nationals
and the Western Junior Regionals set for Las Vegas, Nev. MUST
REGISTER ONLINE. No onsite registration will be available. All
athletes in all divisions must register online before Tuesday,
April 3 at 9:00 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time). There are NO

ASICS KIDS FOLKSTYLE NATIONALS SET FOR IOWA,
MARCH 30 – APRIL 1 – The ASICS Folkstyle Nationals is set
for the UNI-Dome at the Univ. of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls,
Iowa, March 30 – April 1. There will be competition in the
following age divisions this year: Bantam, Midget, Novice,
Schoolboy, Cadet, Junior, Veterans. Olympic and World medalist
Lincoln McIlravy is the special guest at the competition for

FUNDED ACCESS TO FINALISTS AT JUNIOR FOLKSTYLE
NATIONALS – For the first time, a Junior division has been
added to the ASICS Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa,
March 30 – April 1. The top two placewinners in each weight
class will receive funded access at the U.S. Olympic Training
Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. for specialized training
opportunities.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. TO HOST BEACH NATIONALS, JULY
6-8 – Rochester, N.Y. has been awarded the 2007 U.S. Beach
National Championships and World Team Trials, which will be held
on Charlotte Beach, July 6-8. This is the qualifying event for
the U.S. World Team that will compete in Antalya, Turkey in
September. There will be numerous age-group national levels
contested at the Beach Nationals.

FREE GOLD MEDAL CLINIC FOR USAW MEMBERS IN
MICHIGAN, MARCH 18 – USA Wrestling and Michigan USA
Wrestling will host a clinic featuring Olympic champion Steve
Fraser and World champion Joe Warren in Oxford, Mich., Sunday,
March 18. USA Wrestling members attend free. Also a NCEP Bronze
Coaches Clinic, conducted by Dave Bennett, will be held at the
same time.

DAVE SCHULTZ HIGH SCHOOL EXCELLENCE TRAINING
CAMP CREATED – The National Wrestling Hall of Fame has
extended its Dave Schultz High School Excellence program to
include a Leadership Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in
Colorado Springs, Colo., June 18-21.

NORTHEAST CADET FESTIVAL INCLUDED IN
BROCKPORT, NY, MARCH 24 – There will be a Cadet Freestyle
Festival affiliated with the Northeast Junior and Senior
Regionals in Brockport, N.Y. on March 24. This was accidentally
left out of the event flier for the event. The Cadet Festival
has traditionally been a competitive event including wrestlers
from many states.

MORRISON HIRED BY BEAT THE STREETS, INC IN NEW
YORK CITY – Former NCAA champion and Freestyle Team USA
member Dean Morrison has been hired as Executive Director of
Beat the Streets, Inc., working to develop wrestling programs
within New York City.

RULON GARDNER SURVIVES AIRPLANE CRASH INTO
LAKE – 2000 Olympic champion and 2001 World Champion Rulon
Gardner survived an accident when a plane he was a passenger in
crashed into Lake Powell in Utah. Gardner says he is “lucky to
be alive” after the incident.

MARANO, SMITH FEATURED IN USOC SPORTSMANSHIP
CAMPAIGN – World champion wrestlers Kristie Marano and Iris
Smith are featured in the U.S. Olympic Committee campaign

commercial about sportsmanship.

SET – USA Wrestling has set the schedule for the 2007 Big
Brother/Future Freestyle Camps, as well as the FILA Junior Camp
and World Team Trials, as well as the 2012 Junior Olympic
Training Camp. Athletes must place at USA Wrestling age-group
national events to earn invitations to these training
opportunities.
